PAIMIO CHAIR 41

ALVAR AALTO FOR ALIVAR C.1980

The Paimio “Chair 41” was originally designed by Alvar Aalto for the Paimio Sanatorium in Southwest Finland in order to help the Tuberculosis patients breathe more easily while sitting. Artek began production of this design in 1931 and still produces the chair to this day. This example is an Italian made version by the company Alivar, who produced a small batch of Paimio chairs in the 70s and 80’s. According to Artek 2nd cycle, these Alivar chairs are seldom seen and built very well.
