PLIA CHAIR
GIANCARLO PIRETTI FOR ANONIMA CASTELLI C.1967Cane Plia chairs by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli. The woven wicker seats and backs sit within walnut frames, creating an uncommon variation of this famous design. Shown for the first time in 1967 at the Milan Furniture Fair, the design was so popular that visitors began taking chairs from the Castelli stand as ‘samples’ without asking permission. The remaining chairs were chained up to ensure nobody took any more. Today, the design has become a cult classic.
