GAETANO PESCE RESIN INVITATION
GAETANO PESCE FOR “MAESTRA’ TRADITA,” INSTALLAZIONE A PIAZZA SANTA MARIA NOVELLA, ITALY, OCT 21, 2016 - FEB 2, 2017
An uncommon resin invitation by Gaetano Pesce for the three-part exhibition at Museo del Novecento and installation in the Piazza Santa Maria Novella, Firenze, Italy. The show and sculpture were both titled “Majesty Betrayed.” Pesce’s goal was to shed light on the injustices endured by women: ushers sprayed perfume scented like human sweat throughout the show, the floor apeared a patch of blood in the shape of a woman’s face, and plates with bread, liquid, and warnings read “if you try to dip the bread in the liquid you will understand the bitter morsels that women are forced to swallow every day.“ The sculpture features a woman’s body shrouded in a “cloak with the plagues that women now bear.”
