UMBO SHELF

KAY LEROY RUGGLES FOR DIRECTIONAL C.1972

The Umbo system is a classic space age design from the 1970s that shows just how much modular can mean. Everything from tables to shelving, storage, and stools is possible. A 1972 ad listed prices ranging from $1.20 for connecting brackets to $13.20 for straight pieces and T shapes. Today, much like the Olaf Bohr shelving system, Umbo units range from thousands to tens of thousands of dollars for various designs and sets of components.
